The Berkeley Entrepreneurship Laboratory (BEL) is a
non-profit “incubator” available to UC Berkeley
students and recent graduates, especially members of
the Haas School’s MBA program that need a nurturing
environment to develop their business ideas. It’s
always with a great sense of pride and feeling of “job
well done” when one of the tenants reaches the
stage of growth that they can move into larger, more
formal quarters.
We want to congratulate the following companies that
have recently “graduated” from BEL.
World of Good.
Winner of the 2005 Global Social Venture Competition
and 2nd prize/People's Choice winners at the 2005 UC
Berkeley Business Plan Competition, World of Good was
founded by Haas MBAs Priya Haji and Siddharth Sanghvi,
and is now out on its own with a continuing growth in
sales for their fair trade items.
3Jam. Founded by
Haas MBAs Andy Jagoe and Enlai Chu, 3Jam has developed
a new form of text messaging that allows more than two
people to participate in the message. The recent recipient
of venture capital funding, the 3Jam founders have been
able to “graduate” to a Silicon Valley address.
Revolution Foods.
Begun by Kristin Groos Richmond and Kristen Tobey, MBA
students who were leaders of the Global Social Venture
Competition while at Haas, Revolution Foods’ mission
is to improve the food and food service offered in public
schools in an effort to curb the health issues now facing
American youth. With funding from the Bay Area Equity
Fund, Revolution Foods has been able to move from their
pilot project and BEL into full production at their
new headquarters.
Like Silicon
Clocks, a BEL graduate that we featured in our last
issue, we look forward to bringing updates on the growth
of these young companies in the future.
