April 2007
This has been an exciting and
busy spring for the Lester Center. Opening with a gala
celebration honoring John Doerr as this year’s
recipient of our Lifetime Achievement in Entrepreneurship
and Innovation Award, the new year moved on through
the various events leading up to the finals of our two
fine business plan competitions - the Global
Social Business Competition and the UC
Berkeley Business Plan Competition.
We have also strengthened our programs for members
of the entrepreneurial community, presenting the Entrepeneurial
Best Practices Series to consistently packed houses
and preparing to offer another iteration of our Venture
Capital Executive Program in conjunction with the
Haas School’s Center for Executive Development
for those interested in professional careers in venture
capital.
We continue our work with Intel to spread the teaching
of entrepreneurship in developing economies and are
particularly proud of the opportunity to host distinguished
entrepreneurship faculty from 12 countries at the Haas
School during the second half of April at a Global
Faculty Colloquium on entrepreneurship.
We will wrap up the year with the finals of the UC
Berkeley Business Plan Competition on April 26, where
the public is invited to hear about some of the best
new ideas to come out of the Cal community.
Finally, on May 17, we will recognize our outstanding
students, as well as those who have made this a memorable
year at the Lester Center’s awards dinner.

This summer the Lester Center will once again send faculty overseas as part of the Technology Entrepreneurship
Education Initiative. The Lester Center has been working with Intel for nearly two years to bring the Theory to
Practice entrepreneurship training to educators worldwide. Since 2005, seminars have been conducted in Dublin, Madrid, Amsterdam,
Gdansk, Budapest, Sofia, Mumbai, Bucharest, Istanbul, Cairo, Moscow, Beijing, Sao Paulo, and Monterey [Mexico].
The two day sessions, each with about 20 participants from leading local colleges and universities, provide a highly leveraged
and efficient way of enhancing the entrepreneurship training to their respective institutions. The seminar participants have also
found the sessions helpful in forming on-going collaborations among themselves and their institutions.
On Thursday, May 17th the Lester
Center will hold its year-end dinner honoring winners
of Fellowships and awards given out over the course of
the years as well as members of the Berkeley
Entrepreneurs Forum. This invitation-only event is
an annual tradition providing an opportunity for members
of the entrepreneurship community at UC Berkeley to come
together in celebration.
