Entrepreneurship Education:
Global Faculty Colloquium
This
Colloquium is a part of the Intel+UC Berkeley Global Entrepreneurship
Education Partnership
that includes the Technology Entrepreneurship Education: Theory
to Practice Seminars, and the Intel+UC Berkeley Technology
Entrepreneurship Challenge. These three programs link together
to build a complete program for building entrepreneurship
education and entrepreneurial spirit and activity throughout
the world.
The Global Faculty Colloqium was most recently held in
November, 2007. It is tentatively scheduled to be held in April, 2009.
The Global
Faculty Colloquium provides faculty from around the world
with details on how to create and operate a multi-disciplinary,
multi-functional entrepreneurship center. As part of the training,
faculty will be recognized as having been chosen as leaders
in their geographies and encouraged to help others create
successful entrepreneurship centers. Attendees will become
recognized experts at teaching and supporting entrepreneurship
at their institution and in their regional ecosystem.
Invitations to the Colloquium are issued by
the Lester Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Recommendations
for invitations can be made directly to the Lester Center
by Intel Corporation. Attendees will be selected participants
in the Theory to Practice seminars held throughout the world.
Faculty
The Colloquium has been designed by Jerry Engel, Executive
Director of the Lester Center, in conjunction with the other
entrepreneurship faculty at UC Berkeley. The Colloquium will
be taught by a select group of entrepreneurship faculty from
UC Berkeley and the Haas School of Business.
The Colloquium
The Colloquium is two weeks of training on rigorous details
of entrepreneurship education, ecosystem development and immersion
into the operations of the Berkeley entrepreneurship program.
We will also make extensive use of the experiences and situations
of the participants to drive localization of programs and
best practices. At the end of the two-week session, participants
will leave with a deep understanding of how they can create
value at their institutions and in their regions. They will
be prepared to be “master faculty” in their local
regions, complete with materials and skills to train others
in their communities about entrepreneurship education.
As a participant in the Colloquium, you will
have the opportunity to:
1. Develop a broader perspective on entrepreneurship,
its role in economic development, and their own role in making
entrepreneurship successful in their regions,
2. Focus on their own personal skills and development as a
master faculty, and
3. Learn from and assist other master faculty in completely
different settings from their own.
This Global Faculty Colloquium will help you
frame the issues you face in relation to your peers and will
help you build a global network. We expect each of the participants
to create forums, classes and educational opportunities for
other faculty in their region.
The Colloquium is built around several themes:
• The use of competition and experimentation as tools
in building entrepreneurial tendencies in students. By observing
the UC Berkeley Business Plan Competition, the participants
will experience our brand of competition and how it is organized.
We will weave several aspects of the competition into the
colloquium.
• Expert modules that look deeply into entrepreneurship
as a subject, from marketing to organization to finance.
• A central project that each faculty participant will
complete. This project is aimed at creating the necessary
materials for each faculty to train others in their region.
• Team projects to build a community among the participants
and a sense of joint completion of the Colloquium.
• Several opportunities for participants to contribute
material to the seminar.
Schedule
A preliminary schedule for the two week seminar will be posted
soon.
