UC Berkeley Entrepreneurs Forum Begins 16th Year

With the programs scheduled for its 16th year, the UC Berkeley Entrepreneurs Forum continues its tradition of presenting the newest business ideas and financial information of interest to the entrepreneurial community of the San Francisco Bay Area.

The season will start with our annual overview of the financing climate for start-ups. In a special program on Monday, August 28 (a departure from our usual Thursday dates), Venture Capital in 2007: Trends and New Developments will present a panel of financing experts that will look at the last year’s developments and speculate on the year to come.

Issues and Obstacles of Going Public in Today's Market will follow on Thursday, September 28. A distinguished panel will consider the implications of the recent governmental rulings, especially those regarding financial reporting (usually referred to as “Sarbanes Oxley”) and the expensing of stock options, on the way the venture capital community and Silicon Valley have done business for the last twenty years. How is this affecting entrepreneurs and what do they need to know? This will be where you can finally understand the problem.

The October 26th program, Entrepreneurship on the Global Stage, will present the finalists of the 2nd annual Intel+Berkeley Technology Entrepreneurship Challenge, with the winners being named at the end of the evening. Entrants are chosen from among the best teams at earlier qualifying competitions. In its inaugural year the Challenge invited teams from the UC Berkeley Business Plan Competition, Premio Intel of Mexico, BIT from Russia, Start-Up Singapore and Arizona State. Joining them this year will be teams from competitions held in Brazil, the Middle East, Central Eastern Europe, China, and India. Here’s a chance to see the best new tech ideas from around the world — quite literally. Mark the date!

The fall program will close with the November 16 program where we’ll look at what’s happening to the new ubiquity: your cell phone. More Than a Cell Phone will spotlight start-up companies that are developing some of the new features that will soon be available for your phone.

With four more great programs planned for the spring, now’s the time to make sure you don't miss any of the series by signing up for your annual membership. Memberships are available until September 30.
