Marketing is a critical component to the success of any startup. This session will feature Patrick Crane, a 16-year marketing veteran who has led marketing efforts at such notable companies as LinkedIn, Yahoo! and Vodafone. Patrick’s talk will help participants understand your identity and brand as start-up, both externally and within your own workforce. He will discuss the critical component of connecting with customers and leveraging word of mouth as a cost-effective way to grow, in particular the role of inspiring communications and thought leadership. He will also talk about the role of testing as a way to measure your impact.

Patrick Crane

Patrick Crane is a 16-year marketing veteran, building hi tech businesses and brands on three continents. Born and raised in the UK, Patrick started professional life at Vodafone in its early years, after graduating from Huddersfield University in 1995. Before he left the UK, Patrick co-founded the Laura Crane Trust with funds research into teenage cancer.
Patrick was then asked to join Vodafone Australia where he led the launch of Australia’s first wireless internet service, and via assignments in New Zealand and Japan, was asked to join the Global Product team at Vodafone US, where he also studied for his MBA at Henley Management College on Vodafone’s Global Leadership Program.
In 2003, Patrick joined Yahoo! where he led marketing for larger and larger divisions, until making the jump to the startup world in 2007 when he joined LinkedIn as Chief Marketing Officer. Patrick led marketing and communications for four of LinkedIn’s hyper growth years, helping LinkedIn expand around the world and ultimately become a multi-billion dollar public company.
Patrick now leads the Network Group at America’s fastest growing residential solar company, Sungevity, encompassing Marketing, Sales, Remote Solar Design and Product Management. Patrick is also proud to serve on the Board of Empowered by Light.
Patrick is married with a five year old son, and lives in the East Bay of San Francisco.
