Aaron Sahagun, BS 06, was named one of the "Top
25 Entrepreneurs Under 25" by BusinessWeek on October
30 for launching Alumwire, a career resources and social
networking web site. Sahagun shares the honor with his
brother Allan, who is a student at Harvard University.
The Sahaguns created Alumwire to address the challenge
of transitioning from college to the job market. Alumwire
is a social networking site designed to connect job
seekers with fellow alumni and prospective employers.
The site also aggregates job listings from partner Careerbuilder.com
and hosts articles offering career advice for job hunters
from Dow Jones.
Aaron is the Chief Executive
Officer of Alumwire, in charge of developing its strategic
direction and partnerships, and has been the key driver
in the business development and marketing of Alumwire.
While at Haas, Aaron captained
the team that proposed the best business strategy for
Digipede Inc. resulting in his team ranking 1st in the
UC Berkeley Entrepreneurship Case Competition in April
2005.
"Alumwire allows students to see that there are
so many options out there that it is really just a matter
of following your dreams," says Aaron Sahagun.
While Alumwire is available to more than 1,000 four-year
universities, at present the brothers are focusing their
marketing efforts on UC campuses and Ivy League schools.
Aaron Sahagun is working with the UC Office of the President
to expand Alumwire's reach to additional UC campuses.
All of the entrepreneurs selected by BusinessWeek, including
Alumwire, have clear revenue models, ideas that fill
gaps found in their own lives, and are operating on
small budgets.
