Former VP of Samsung Internet Browser, Mobile & currently assistant professor of SFSU
Isabel Hyo Jung Song has around 20 years of experience in consumer electronics industry. She has received her Ph.D. in CS(Computer Science) department at KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) in 1998. Shecontinued to research parallel & distributed computing as a postdoctoral research staff at CS&E (Computer Scienceand Engineering) department at University of California at San Diego. In 2000, she joined Samsung Electronics inKorea. She led the development of Java mobile technology (J2ME, Java 2 Micro Edition) for the first time in Samsung.The technology was embedded for all Samsung Java phones, which enabled users to enjoy Java games. From 2007,she led the development of multi core technology, including multi-core/GPGPU computing, programming model andparallelization of mobile applications, to build high-performance & low-power smart phones. The multicoretechnologies were embedded for Galaxy S2 in 2010 which is the first multi core smart phones in the world. In 2011,she became the first female engineering VP in Samsung Mobile. Since then she led the product development ofSamsung Internet browser. Samsung Internet browser is the main browser for all Samsung mobile phones (100+devices per year), Gear VR, Samsung TV and Samsung smart refrigerators. Its MAU (monthly active users) is 300million. She oversaw the end-to-end process of the product development including product strategy setup, theproduct management, customer engagement, UX, technology development and team building. Her team obtainedthe best SCI (Samsung Cultural Index) score in Samsung mobile in 2016 and 2017. After leaving Samsung in 2018summer, she moved to California in Jan. of 2019 and now she is an assistant professor of SFSU (San Francisco StateUniv.). She has a keen interest in transforming her consumer electronics experience in a big company into agileexperience for young entrepreneurs in start-ups. Her mentoring preferences are with digital health, mobile, IoT,wireless companies involved in big data analytics.
