Ted Sorom (MBA 08) is a product designer & entrepreneur whose expertise spans from online payments to high-tech product development. Ted is currently the CEO and founder of Rixty, a payments company that enables consumers who lack credit cards to pay online for online entertainment and content. Ted founded Rixty while in the second year of the Haas MBA program after spending his summer as a Mayfield Fellow at an online entertainment start-up where he saw first-hand the market needs for a better online payment system. Today, Rixty has offices in San Francisco and Sao Paulo, Brazil and is expanding across all of North and South America. Before founding Rixty, Ted worked at Wild Planet Entertainment a mass market manufacturer of children’s toys and consumer products. At Wild Planet, Ted managed a majority of the company’s product development for such retailers as Target, Gap Kids and Dreamworks. Prior to working in the toy industry, Ted held the role of Chief Technical Officer at the high-end sporting goods company, Light & Motion, where he lead the company’s engineering team and product development. Ted holds a Bachelors degree from Dartmouth College, a Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and an MBA from the full-time program at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley.
